In celebration of Pioneer Courthouse Square’s 40th Anniversary, Time Sound returns to celebrate historic gospel music from Portland’s African-American community. Originally conceived in 1981 by Thara Memory’s Creative Jazz Orchestra, this iteration of Time Sound features a gospel mass choir as well as ensemble performances of jazz and blues compositions. Storytelling onstage will complement this music, detailing historic connections made between Portland Festival Symphony emeritus music director Lajos Balogh and leading musical directors in Albina.
